Field Day- COLOR WARS!

On Thursday, we celebrated Field Day with all of SMS! Here are some pictures from our day of fun:

Heading out for the Field Day Parade! We decided to make a Lego themed banner with our very own theme song "Second Grade is Awesome!"

Mr. Fosher got us all excited for the day with a little pep rally. Kindergarten was sporting orange, first grade was blue, second grade was wearing red, third grade had on yellow, fourth grade was purple, and fifth grade was green! We were all sporting our white bandanas :)

That cool cat seems awfully familiar :) Let the games begin!

Once the games were over, we cooled down and had some lunch!

We went back to the classroom for a bit to watch Finding Nemo, and at the end of the day, we met all the grades outside for a giant dance party and popsicles!

We had an amazing day outside with our friends. THANK YOU to all of the teachers and families who volunteered so much of their time to making field day such an amazing experience, especially Ms. Locke and Ms. Batchelder!

Field Day TOMORROW!

Just a reminder that Field Day is TOMORROW! Second Grade will be sporting the color RED for our color war theme :) Please remember to wear weather-appropriate clothing, sneakers, and sunscreen. Please feel free to bring a change of clothes, as we will be getting wet (these do not have to be red!) We will be outside playing games until lunchtime, when we will have a class picnic by the garden. Afterwards, we will be watching a movie and at the end of the day, we will join all of the grade levels for a school-wide dance party!

Also, if you are going to be home this evening, tune into New Hampshire Chronicle on Channel 9 to see the Great Bay Discovery Center, which is where we went on Monday for our Field Trip! Unfortunately they were not filming while we were there, but they will be sharing lots of great information about all the programs they have going on this summer!

My Many Colored Days

As part of our Poetry Unit in Writer's Workshop, we've been learning lots about showing, and not telling with our words. We read the story My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss, which describes feelings as colors and actions or images that go with those colors and feelings. We've been working on writing our own versions of the story by comparing each of the colors in the story to things in our life:

For bright colors like red, orange, yellow, and pink, we described things that showed happiness or excitement

For cool colors like blue and green, we described things that made us feel calm and relaxed

For the colors purple and brown, we described times when we felt lazy or sad

For dark colors like black, we described times when we feel scared or angry

All of our books are now on display in our hallway, and we will be sure to share them at our Sidewalk Shelebration on May 24th
