Recently, Ms. Riley traveled to our nation's capital along with a few other SMS teachers for the annual NCTE Convention. Ms. Riley is part of the Literacy Lab Cohort at SMS which often joins forces with other lab cohorts in the area, and in addition to attending sessions at the conference, a group of teachers from these cohorts were presenting on their work with Selfie Centers (click here if you would like to learn more about the presentation!) Their presentation was extremely successful and inspired teachers across the country to begin Selfie Centers during their Reader's Workshop time (we too will begin our own Selfie Center when we come back from Thanksgiving Break!)
Here are a few snapshots from the trip, which of course included a few selfies! Enjoy!

Ms. Riley and Ms. King (first grade teacher at Dondero Elementary in Portsmouth) found Gingy!!! He wanted to improve his literacy practices, too! |

And of course, not long after we found Gingy, we found Shrek and Fiona too! It felt like it was summertime again at Prescott
Park! |
While Ms. Riley is incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn about different methods for improving the literacy practices within our classroom and our school, she is excited to finally be back with her giraffes :)
