On Monday, we began making our Project Linus blankets to donate to the residents at Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, which is an organization that supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness by providing food, shelter, and programs to help residents achieve independent, sustainable housing.
After talking about the importance of giving back, we poured some love into these blankets by passing them around during our morning meeting. While we did, we thought about the special "lovies" and "stuffies" we have at home that bring us love, warmth, and comfort, and we were excited to get to work creating some blankets that would do the same for other kids.
To become "blanketeers" we had a little lesson in measuring and then we got to work! To make our blankets, we lined up the two pieces of fleece and cut out 4" squares from each corner. Then, we cut strips that were 4" long and 1" wide around the whole perimeter, tying each pair of strips in double knots to hold the two pieces together. You can find the pattern here!
All of the giraffes have really enjoyed making the blankets and working together. Many of us have found we like one job more than the other (cutting vs. tying) so we tend to pair up with friends who like the opposite job!
We can't wait to make more blankets next week!
