Second Grade Service Projects

The giraffes continued to cut, tie, and put some love into the blankets we made for Cross Roads House, and thanks to our awesome blanketeers, we were able to make 6 blankets to donate!

On Wednesday, we went to all of the other second grade classrooms to participate in a few more service projects!

2H- Food Drive for Seacoast Family Promise

In 2H, we counted and sorted all of the food we had collected over the last few weeks for Seacoast Family Promise. We used our adding with regrouping skills to add all of our numbers together, and we figured out we had collected 333 non-perishable food items as a second grade team!

2D- Carols for The Elderly

After all of our counting, Mrs. Downing took us next door to 2D where Ms. Donlon recorded us singing carols to turn into a CD to donate to local Nursing Homes! We thought our awesome singing would bring them some cheer :)

2B: Cards for Liam Starr

In Ms. Bucklin's class, we made Christmas Cards for Liam Starr, a first grader at SMS who is currently out of school battling AML Leukemia. He continues to improve every day, and we thought receiving cards from his friends in second grade would help brighten his day!

2R: Lunch Bags with a Smile!

When we got back to 2R, we got to work creating a few more items to donate to Cross Roads House. Every second grader came by to decorate a lunch bag with kind, thoughtful, and funny messages! These bags will be used to pack lunches for residents at Cross Roads who leave the shelter during the day to go to work or school.

That afternoon, Ms. Riley and Mrs. Healey dropped off our holiday mission gifts to the front office before heading to Seacoast Family Promise to donate our food drive loot. Ms. Riley then drove to Portsmouth to drop off our awesome fleece blankets and lunch bags to Cross Roads House. Everyone was incredibly grateful for your generosity and for the love and care that went into these service projects.

Thank you for opening your hearts to others this holiday season and for helping us teach the importance of empathy, gratitude, and supporting our community to your children, I truly believe it is one of the most important lessons they will learn in second grade and beyond :)
