Happy New Year!

We've been having all sorts of fun in the giraffe class since returning from our vacation, but due to  having to complete multiple assessments for report cards, wrapping up units, and finally getting some more snow to play in, our blog is in need of an update! Here are some photos from our last few weeks since returning to SMS for the new year:

Our most exciting part of 2019 has been welcoming a new giraffe to our classroom!

We finally got a bit more snow to play in during our first few days back in class!

We made some SNOW-inspired artwork as well!

We've also been having fun exploring 2D and 3D shapes!

We turned our Dramatic Play area into a post office, and we've also been receiving lots and lots of postcards from our gingerbread spotters! So far, they've been seen in The White Mountains, Colorado, Utah, Hawaii, The Marshall Islands, Oregon, and Hawaii!

We published a new class book called Giraffe ABCs to go in our Giraffe of The Day bag!

We wrapped up our unit on Force and Motion by building structures that could make a ball move on its own and then make it stop or show down. You can check out the videos of our structures on SeeSaw!

In between our cold temperatures, we had a bit more snow to play in before the rain washed it away! We are hoping we will get more snow soon so we can go sledding in P.E. with Mrs. Locke :)

We've also been doing a lot of learning about Martin Luther King JR and all that he did to make sure everyone would be treated equally. We've been working hard to learn and show what it means to be a good friend and working towards being kind and caring to all of the members of our classroom and school.

We were also lucky enough to get to take part in Storytelling with Shawn, were we learned all about the art of storytelling as we learned about the story of The Lion and The Mouse.

We've been jamming out to the banana song too, of course!

We've loved doing some role-playing with Mrs. Curry during Social Detectives and learning more about our feelings and reactions in social situations.

We've also been working hard during our literacy time to practice reading and writing our SNAP words. These are the words that appear most in our stories!

We are excited for the fun to continue and to see what the next half of our year will bring!
