Spreading Good Fortune

During Safari Time this week, we learned how to make Fortune Tellers and then turned them into sweet spring chicks and bunnies

We hope our Fortune Tellers will spread some good fortune and cheer!

Hunting for Numbers

On Friday afternoon during Math, we went on an egg hunt for numbers! Our class was split in two teams, and each time Ms. Riley called out a number, one person from each time had to go around the room to find the egg with that number. But the cards inside the eggs weren't number cards--they had pictures of base ten blocks, equations, and expanded form versions of the numbers that were being called!

We had to look carefully at the cards inside each of the eggs to check if it was representing the number Ms. Riley had called out. Some giraffes didn't think they had found the right number but really they had!

It was a very close game, and although team 2 was really the team that got to ten points first, we all had a lot of fun and we used some great math skills along the way :) That sounds like a win-win to us!

Hunting for Missing Addends

On Friday afternoon, we did a special kind of Easter Egg Hunt with missing addends

We split our class into 3 teams, while Ms. Riley hid eggs around our classroom. Each egg contained 1-9 base-ten blocks, and when Ms. Riley said "GO!" one person from each team set off to find the egg with the missing addend.

When we found the egg with the correct number of blocks, we shouted "I caught the bunny!" and earned our team 1 point.

After a few rounds, we were able to remember where certain number eggs were hiding, so it became a dash to get there first!

We had lots of fun on our hunt for the missing addends, and I wish luck to all of the giraffes who will be doing some egg hunts of their own this weekend!

Giraffes in Wonderland

This week, we imagined what it would be like to be Alice and fall into our own Wonderland! We each created our very own rabbit hole (diving rabbit included!) and we drew a picture of what we pictured our own Wonderland to look like.

In each of our Wonderlands, we included a bug (like Alice's friend the Caterpillar), a villain (like the Queen of Hearts) and a friend we'd like to have tea with, such as the Mad Hatter :)

A few of us are still working on our creations, but here are a few of our completed projects! Hopefully another furry friend who will be visiting many of us this weekend will swing by school to check them out :)

Stained Glass Eggs

On Friday, we took a new twist on the old Easter tradition of coloring eggs by coloring and creating some stained glass paper eggs to brighten up our classroom!

We had lots of designs to choose from, and after we colored our designs with marker...

We flipped them over and painted cooking oil lightly over the back of the design. It was so cool to watch the design pop through the paper as we painted!

After letting them dry for a bit, we cut out our eggs and hung them in our window. They certainly help to brighten up our view of the muddy grass and melted snow!
