Hello, Giraffes!

It is hard to believe that summer is RIGHT around the corner! Next week you will be sent home with a blue folder where you will find some great websites, games, and book titles, and ideas that you can use over the summer to continue stretching your brain with all the strategies you learned in second grade. Here are links to some of the resources that are in your folder:

Show Us Your Reading Muscles!

Hello, Giraffes!

I hope your summer is off to an amazing start! I am sure lots of you have already been diving into some great books, and I wanted to share this opportunity from Scholastic with you. They want you to show off your best "Reading Muscles" and share a picture with them on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with the hashtags #readingmuscles and #summerreading (with the help/permission of your parents, of course!) Every week, they will pick one winner who will receive a "Reading Superhero" prize pack! I am off to Acadia, so I will be sure to share some pictures with you from one of our favorite National Parks :)

Good luck, and Happy Reading!

Summer Reading Suggestions

I hope everyone is excited to dive into some new books this summer! It is so important to continue to explore stories even when school is not in session, whether you are reading independently or with your family and friends.

The site Imagination Soup has some excellent ideas for summer reading. Not only are their lists broken up by grade level,  but they are also organized by the types of books you might like to read! I will send home more information about what types of books would be "just right" for each giraffe!

The blogs A Year of Reading and Connections Academy also have some great resources for summer reading materials :) te@chthought lists some great iPad apps for enhancing literacy for those who find it challenging.

If you are going to be in Stratham this summer, be sure to sign up for the summer reading program at Wiggin Memorial Library. This year's theme is “Every Hero Has a Story”.

We hope you have a wonderful time making memories this summer….playing outdoors, camping under the stars, catching frogs and going on hikes… play, play, play and read!

Last Call for Scholastic Book Orders!

Hello, Giraffe Families! The last Scholastic Book Order for this year will be made Monday (6/8) night. Please have all orders turned in or placed online by the end of the school day on Monday, as we want to make sure books arrive before the end of the school year!

You can order books online here using our classroom code: NB42C.
As I'm sure you've heard, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell was a HUGE hit in our classroom. If you're looking for a family read aloud this summer, the second book The Enchantress Returns is available through the Scholastic Reading Club! There are also tons of books on there that would make for great summer reads in preparation for third grade :)

Thanks for your support with Scholastic Reading Club this year. We were able to purchase TONS of books for our classroom and can't thank you enough!
