Classroom Happenings

Hello, Giraffe Families!

We've had a busy few weeks in the giraffe class and around SMS! Here are some photos from the fun we've been having over the last few weeks:

Science Buddies:

We got together with our buddies to work on making detailed observations! Each buddy pair got a leaf that they had to draw in detail. The next time we met, we looked at photos of the leaves on the projector and tried to match them to the picture! The giraffes and puffins did a great job making their pictures match their leaves :)

This week, we got together with our buddies and did some mystery planting out in the garden. We observed what we'd be planting (we did determine they were called bulbs!) and talked about how we should plant them in the ground. We can't wait to see what they'll grow into come spring!

We headed back out to the garden to get it ready for winter by raking leaves and moving them over to the woods. Great job, kindergarteners and second graders!

Fire Safety Day

On 10/22, the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department came to visit SMS to teach us all about fire safety! We got to check out their fire trucks, hear a story about how to keep our homes safe, practice Stop, Drop, and Roll with Sparky, and we got to see and try on some firefighter gear!

SMS Play Day

On Halloween we held our first SMS Play Day of the year! The giraffes had so much fun dressing up, building, playing, imagining, dancing, singing, coloring, and crafting all day long!

Mrs. Quinn, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Mastin, and Mrs. A were the four seasons!

Fun Friday Centers:

We've been having so much fun crafting with our parent volunteers every Friday! Thank you to everyone who has come in to volunteer with us (and a big thank you to our Tuesday Guest Readers as well!)

New Giraffe Teachers:

Each of the giraffes has been working hard on learning their letter sounds to apply to their reading and writing. This week, they got to become the teachers and teach the letter sounds to some of our classroom stuffies!

Turkey Mazes:

We read the story How To Catch A Turkey together as a class, and then the giraffes were challenged to make a maze for the "Turkey Marble" to get through as they made their way through the school! It was so cool to see all of the different designs and materials the giraffes used :)

Author Visit:

We got to meet authors (and friends!) Jamie Michalak and Anika Denise and learn about how they find inspiration for their stories!

Number Museum:

Up next on our agenda? Looking for more snowflakes!
