Beginning of The Year Reminders

Hello, Giraffe Families!

Welcome to our classroom blog! I am excited to use this blog to share bits about our classroom with you as well as to give you a space to find information about upcoming classroom/school events. I post to our blog at the end of each week so you can see all the amazing learning that has happened in the Giraffe Class! Here are a few reminders for the next few weeks:

-Please be sure to send the blue communications folder to school with your child every day. If you have any changes to make in dismissal, please send them via paper note in the communications folder or via email to smsdismissals@sau16.org (I'd appreciate if you could CC me on these emails as well to ensure everyone knows the plan well in advance!) Changes in dismissal should be made no later than 1:30 pm. Paperwork that was sent home to in folders  last week should be completed and returned to school by this Friday (9/7). 

-If you have not sent in an extra change of clothes to keep at school for your child, please do! You are also welcome to send in sneakers to keep at school for P.E. (our Related Arts schedule is being added into the back pocket of the communications folder, you can see our color-coded 6-Day schedule any time by scanning the QR code with your phone and you can also view it here!

Tomorrow is a Tan Day, so that means PE with Mrs. Locke! Due to another day of very hot temps, I am not sure what our PE class will look like, but please be sure to send your child to school with sneakers if they don't have them in the classroom along with a water bottle that they can drink from throughout the day

-Wednesday Night is Curriculum Night at SMS for grades PreK-2! All Kindergarten Teachers will be presenting to parents in the Cafe at 6:30 and then we will go to our individual classrooms until 7:30 pm. If any of you are interested in becoming our room parent for the year, please let me know! (For those of you with students in the upper grades, Curriculum Night for grades 3-5 will be held Thursday!) 

-Picture Day is Next Tuesday, 9/11. Order forms will be coming home soon!

Reminders for Next Week

Next week will be our first full week of school, and it is jam-packed with activities!

Thurday, September 15th is Picture Day as well as Curriculum Night for grades K-2. We will begin Curriculum Night at 6:30 pm. We are located in Room 18

On Friday, September 16th, SMS will be celebrating International Dot Day. Please wear all of your polka-dottiest clothing and get ready to make your mark!

Important Dates for September

Happy September! We have had such a wonderful first week of second grade in the giraffe class. We have a few important dates coming up, so I wanted to send them out now so you could mark them in your calendars:

• Friday, 9/2: No School
• Monday, 9/5: No School, Labor Day
• Thursday, 9/8: Curriculum Night Grades 3-5 @6:30
• Thursday, 9/15: Picture Day, Curriculum Night Grades K-2 @6:30
• Friday, 9/16: Dot Day, One World Language School Open House @ 6:30
• Monday, 9/26: Johnny Apple Seed Day (Grade 2) 
• Wednesday, 9/28: Early Release Day (12:50 dismissal)

Important Dates

This is a quick reminder that tomorrow (9/17) is an early release day. We will be dismissed at 12:50 pm.

We also have Picture Day as well as our Curriculum Night coming up on Thursday (9/18). Tell your young giraffes to bring their best smiles to school! I look forward to seeing all of you Thursday night, I will be in my room sharing information about our second grade curriculum from 6:30-7:30 pm. I can't wait to fill you in on all of the wonderful things we have been/will be doing this year!
