Upcoming December Events

Hello, Giraffe Families! We have a busy few weeks ahead of us, so here is a list of important upcoming events both in our classroom and at SMS:

December 13th- Early Release Students will be dismissed from school at 12:50 pm.

December 14th- Dress Rehearsal for the Holiday Concert at 2 pm

December 18th- SMS Holiday Mission gifts due back to the Giraffe and Owl classrooms, Holiday Concert at 6 pm in the Cafe

December 20th- Gingerbread Cookie Decorating Party in the Giraffe Class at 2:15
We will be cutting and baking the gingerbread cookies in the morning (we will be using the pre-made Pillsbury gingerbread cookie dough) so they are cooled and ready for us to decorate in the afternoon. We will also have frosting and sprinkles to decorate with in class, but if you would like to send in your child with their own small sandwich-sized bag of candies to decorate with, you are more than welcome to! ALL friends and family are welcome to join us for the party--we will have extra cookies to decorate for visitors!

December 22nd - January 1st- Vacation-- We will see you in 2019!

Reminders for February

Hello, Giraffe Families! February may be our shortest month, but it will certainly keep us busy! Here are a few important dates to keep in mind for the next few weeks leading up to our February Vacation (Feb 26-March 2)
  • Our 100th Day Letter Project is due back to school on Monday, February 5th. Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your letters, they look amazing!
  • Wednesday, February 7th is an Early Release Day, and students will be dismissed from school at 12:50. It is also our 100th Day of School!
  • Friday, February 9th is going to be our 2R Character Soiree! We have been learning a lot about the importance of taking a closer look at the characters in our stories and on 2/9, we will become them! Each of your children has chosen a character from one of their books that they will impersonate next Friday. Your child is welcome to dress the part of their character but it is certainly not required. They've been practicing asking and answering questions as their characters with their reading partners, and we are excited to make these stories come to life and hold a party to celebrate our learning :)
  • From February 9th-vacation, our classroom is going to be following the Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang!  Many classrooms at SMS are representing and following countries that are participating in the games, and our classroom is going to be representing Germany! We will be decorating our door to represent our country and we will also represent them in our Opening Ceremonies on Friday, Feb. 9th :)
  • Our Valentines Celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 14th from 2:15-2:45. All family and friends are welcome to join us as we exchange cards and recite poems! I will be sending home a list of names of the students and teachers we have in our classroom. If your child wishes to make/write cards, I only ask that they make a card for all the students in our classroom. It is totally fine if they only make cards for their students, and they certainly do not need to make them for all the teachers we see each day, but I will list the names of all the teachers we work with in case they'd like to include them as well!

Reminders for This Week

Hello, Families!

I hope you all enjoyed the snow day on Friday. On Thursday our daily question asked if we thought we'd have a snow day before February vacation and 13 of the 19 people who answered said no! I think we were all quite surprised when 10 inches of snow fell the next day!
  • Report cards will now be sent home on Monday, and as a reminder, we will make up our orange day related arts at the end of the school year (Monday will be a red day, which means we will have P.E.) A few of the related arts teachers had some issues putting in the correct grades through Gradebook, so for the time being, all necessary changes have been made by hand and they will be fixed in Gradebook once they find the issue.
  • Our 100th Day has been pushed back to Tuesday, so please be sure to send in your letters when we return on Monday
  • Wednesday is an early release day, which means we will be getting out of school at 12:50 pm. We will still have lunch and snack at school.
  • Friday is our Valentine's Day celebration! All of you are welcome to join us in our classroom at 1:00 pm as we hand out valentines, have a few snacks, and share some poems we've been practicing. Thank you to all of you who are sending in supplies and thank you, as always, to Caroline for helping me put it all together!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, I hope to see many of you at the end of the week!

Quick Reminders

Hello, Families!

I've enjoyed meeting with many of you for conferences this past week and I look forward to meeting with many more of you in this week to come! This is just a quick reminder that this Monday (4/13) is Opening Day at Fenway Park and Mr. Fosher has encouraged all of us to wear our Red Sox gear to school. This Wednesday (4/15) will be another Early Release Day as we wrap up conferences, and report cards will be sent home on Friday (4/17). April seems to be just zooming by!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and best of luck to the Sox on Monday as they play the Washington Nationals!
