Guest Readers

Hello, Giraffe Families!

We will begin having weekly Guest Readers in the Giraffe Class. As a guest reader, you can bring in 1-2 picture books to share with the class and help us grow our reading brains! All family and friends are welcome :) If you are interested, please sign up for one of the dates listed on our Sign Up Genius. If the dates/times listed do not work for you, please reach out to me and we can arrange another time for you to come in.

We will also begin having Center Volunteers every Friday. As a volunteer, you would be helping the giraffes with either a math/literacy game or a craft activity. All friends and family are welcome to come in to volunteer. If you would like to sign up for one of our available slots, please click here! If the dates/times listed on our Sign Up Genius do not work for you but you would still like to join us, please feel free to reach out so we can figure out a time that does :) Thank you for your support!

Fall Conferences

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner! Conferences will be held on October 25th and November 1st (both Thursdays are early release days) and I will also make a few dates/times available in-between. SMS Holiday Mission

2H and 2R are teaming up to help a family in need this holiday season. Our classrooms will be purchasing gifts for a local family in need. If you wish to buy one of the gifts listed please have the gift wrapped and tagged with the child's age and gender.

The gifts will be due back to either the Owl or Giraffe classroom by Monday, December 19th. Thank you so much for your generosity and for bringing some holiday cheer to a family in need!

Gingerbread House Decorating Celebration! 

When: Thursday, December 22nd (snow date: Friday, December 23rd)

Time: 1:00-1:45 pm 

In addition to decorating our Gingerbread Houses, we will also have lots of games to play and snacks to munch on! All are welcome :)

Reminders for This Week

Hello, Giraffe Families!

Here are a few reminders for our week ahead:

Wednesday, October 26th will be a half day as we begin our first round of Parent-Teacher Conferences(check your sign up time here!). The following Wednesday, November 2nd will also be a half day for the remainder of our conferences. Students will be dismissed at 12:50 that day. NOTE: If you have a child enrolled in an After School Enrichment activity that takes place on Wednesday afternoons, their activity will not take place on these two Wednesdays. Dainty Delighters will have their last three sessions on 11/9, 11/16, and 11/30.

Our pumpkins and plan sheet for our Book Character Pumpkin project are due back to school by Wednesday. We will decorate our pumpkins at school on Thursday so they are ready for our celebration on Friday!

Our pressed leaves for our Animal Leaf project are not due back to school until Tuesday, November 1st, but students will need to collect their leaves this week to give them enough time to pressl. I collected leaves this weekend after all that rain, I didn't even need to soak them before pressing them :)

Last but not least, our Halloween Celebration will take place Friday afternoon at 1:00 and all family and friends are welcome to join us! We are going to put our Character Pumpkins on display while we enjoy some snacks, refreshments, games, songs, and dances to start Halloween off right.

Sign Ups Are Live!

Hello, Giraffe Families

All of you will be receiving emails from Sign Up Genius regarding Fall Conferences (which will take place on and between October 26th and November 2nd) and Mystery Reader (every Thursday at 12:30). 

For Conferences:
Please sign up for one 15 minute conference time that works for you. Oct. 26th and November 2nd are both early release days, and there are also times before and after school between those dates listed. If you cannot find a time that works for you, please email me and we will find a time that does.

For Mystery Reader:
This is by no means mandatory, but we would love to have you in to read to us! I ask that initially, you only sign up for 1 time per family, and after everyone has a chance to find a time that works for them, you may sign up for additional dates. When you are a mystery reader, you will get a reminder 2 days before your set date. Please email me 3 clues about yourself so students have a chance to guess who it is. When you arrive, sign in at the office and bring 1-3 books to share with us! Again, if you cannot find a time that works for you, please let me know and we will find another time for you to come in.

Parents interested in volunteering in the classroom: I am going to be sending out a google form so I can find out when/how frequently you are available and we will go from there. I am going to try to get that out in the next few days!

• Fill in your first and last name, e-mail, and phone number. If you would like, you can create an account with Sign Up Genius, but that is optional. If you create an account, you will be able to go back and change your time, but you will still be able to sign up without creating an account!

Spring Conferences

Hello, Families!

Believe it or not, spring conferences are right around the corner. Please sign up for a 15 minute time slot on either April 6th or April 13th (both are early release days). I am excited to share your child's progress with you and discuss what we can do for the remainder of the year to prepare for 3rd grade!

If you are not available on the 6th or 13th, I also have some other times available between those dates before and after school. If you do not see a time slot that works for your family, please let me know and we will find a different date/time that will.

I will also make a few slots available before and after school on a few of the days in between the 5th and the 18th. Please click here to sign up or change your time. Mystery Reader

Hello, Families!

Happy 2015! I hope you have all had a wonderful vacation. I can't wait to hear all about them on Monday when we return to SMS (it will be a Green day when we return, so make sure to send in those sneakers for P.E!)

We will begin doing lots of new and exciting things when we return, including Mystery Readers! We will have a Mystery Reader join us for read-aloud every Blue day at 12:45 p.m. when we return from lunch (there are also a few Orange day time slots available for the same time!) If you would like to be one of our Mystery Readers, please feel free to sign up for a date on SignUpGenius. If the dates listed do not work for your schedule and you would still like to come in to read with us, please contact Ms. Riley to arrange a different date.

I am so excited to share your child's progress with you and to gain your insight from home so we can continue to provide your child with opportunities to grow and learn at his/her fullest potential!

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on October 29^th and November 7^th. You can sign up now on Sign Up Genius! I sent everyone an invitation to sign up via e-mail, but in case you did not receive the message, here is the link:
